How do I find out more?
Please call us on 01227 456331. One of our team will be able to answer any questions you may have.
How do I sign up?
Please call us on 01227 456331 or pop into the school so one of our team can arrange a trial lesson (standard rate of £17) for you, then if you wish to enroll please complete an enrollment form which can be found at the front desk.
How do I cancel a lesson?
We only ask for 24 hours notice to rearrange a lesson. But often, if a lesson can’t happen face to face, an online lesson is a very practical solution that avoids cancellation. A weekly student is committing to 42 lessons a year (21 for fortnightly) it is flexible as to how these lessons are taken, despite a regular time slot being assigned.
How much do lessons cost?
Half an hour with any of our tutors is £17 on a one to one basis. Our group lessons are £15 per hour. Most of our bookings are half hour weekly, but an hour weekly or fortnightly is also popular. The price is the same online or in person.
What are the terms of payment?
We ask for all payments to be made by the 15th of each month. Each figure will be based on how many lessons are in that month. Alternatively you can set a standing order that will be formed of twelve equal payments per year , compared to a varying payment. All payments can be made in store, over the phone or by direct bank transfer. We accept cash, cheques and card payments.
How do we select our tutors?
Teaching is all about communication of information and making the learning experience interesting and enjoyable. Our Managing Director chooses all of the team at YMS and the focus is people skills, experience and passion for teaching. Most amazingly capable musicians would be poor teachers and vice versa, so YMSC has a team of personally selected experts who we match up to the students after careful planning and consideration.
Where are we?
Your Music School Canterbury is based on Simmonds Road on the Wincheap Estate, just a few yards from the Wincheap roundabout on the city’s ring road. Easy access by car and just a couple of minutes walk from Canterbury East railway station. Our younger students can walk to us from all the local secondary schools within 30 minutes or a shorter 10 minute walk from the city centre and bus station.
Are there parking facilities?
Unfortunately we have limited parking space on site but most customers can normally find a space either on our site or in the public car park next to Iceland food store (£1 per hour). Many parents drop off and pick up their children and don’t use the parking spaces.
Is there a waiting room or facilities?
We have a comfortable waiting area for customers and their families with tables, chairs, tea/coffee/hot choc and a snack vending machine. We provide toilet facilities and a friendly face on reception to assist with any of your needs.
Can we take exams at YMS?
Yes we work with all the main exam boards ABRSM, Trinity College, Rockschool, Trinity Rock & Pop and RGT. We are also the public centre for Rockschool & TC Rock & Pop. Almost all of our pupils take their exams in our facilities.
