What is Your Music School Canterbury?
Welcome to our website. Your Music School is based in Wincheap, Canterbury, just outside of the city walls. We provide music tuition for people of all ages and abilities. YMS Canterbury, is one of the largest Independent Music Schools in the UK with over 1000 students currently enrolled for our courses. Our aim is is to provide our students with high quality, professional tuition, to enable you to achieve the very best on your musical journey.
We pride ourselves on excellent facilities and even more importantly, fantastic energetic teachers who are keen to share their skills to get you playing musical instruments to a high standard. Whether it’s just for fun, to achieve grades or for amateur or professional performance work, our team can help you achieve this in a very enjoyable way. Our founder, James Wilford, started the school back in 1995 and has grown his team over the last 25 years to deliver music tuition of the highest standard. Our exam results and concerts are testament to this. Please take a look around the website to see for yourself what kind of things happen at YMS. If you’re interested in any of our courses, contact the office for further information regarding enrolling in one of the courses and to check the availability of classes.
The Three Course Types We Offer
These are one to one lessons with our tutors, most commonly for 30 minutes weekly, but some students do hourly per week or fortnight. Pupils living further away from Canterbury often take one hour every fortnight to avoid wasted travelling time and expense. This category of lesson also covers two students from the same family having a shared lesson.View All
Groups are when three or more students work together in group sessions. We do this on selected instruments only. Keyboard, Drums, Guitar & Vocal. Lessons are one hour in length and there are 42 per teaching year.View All
We work in partnership with Yamaha, delivering their excellent keyboard courses. The “Junior Play For Keeps” course is designed for 4-6 year olds and the “Play For Keeps” course is for the older children. Taught in groups of just four to eight pupils, these courses provide a superb learning environment for children and adults to learn how to play.View All
