Dear YMS Team,
I'm excited to announce that the YMS Festival will be happening again this
year! We had such great feedback from 2016, and I know that this year will
be even bigger and better. Giving our students the opportunity to share
their progress with family & friends; and having the experience of playing
in a great venue is always at the forefront of of this project, and I look
forward to as many of you as possible putting your students forward for the
show.
Thank you for those of you who fed back about the show and process last
time round. James and I have considered the points raised and have taken
steps to incorporate your suggestions to make sure the experience for
staff, students and parents is as enjoyable as possible. Hopefully the
changes we've made will make everyone's lives a little easier this year!
I'll be asking you soon which parts of the day you'd like to be involved
in, but for the moment I'd really appreciate it if you could all put the
show date in your diaries. Details I have for you so far are as follows:
Show Date: Sunday 28th October
Show Times: 12.30pm, 3.00pm & 5.30pm
Venue: The Marlowe Studio
Format: 11 songs in each show plus a couple of solo/duo songs
(same content in each show)
60mins approx per show
50 performers max each show - each performer aim =
2 songs
Instruments per song (with a couple of exceptions TBC):
2 vocals
2 guitar
2 keys
1 bass or keys
1 drums
2 woodwind/brass
Arrangements: Roy (may need some help from Phil & Dave for brassy/windy
bits). I'm hoping this will take the pressure off you guys a bit this year!
Rehearsals: Students prepared in your lessons.
Tech rehearsals: Taking on board your feedback about difficulties in
re-arranging lessons around this, I felt the best course of action would be
for me to run the tech rehearsals. IF you find yourself free & want to
come and help that would be very much appreciated, however there is
absolutely no pressure on you to do this.
This year I have 'recruited' a production assistant (not that she had any
choice) to help with the paperwork and general administration of the show.
For those of you who know my wife, Stacy, you'll know that she is a theatre
producer in her own right and is particularly good at 'organising'
things/being bossy! She will be in contact with you all soon with more
info on show day & stuff...
I think that is it for the moment (quite proud of myself for keeping the
first email short-ish!), except to say that I'm looking forward to getting
this up on it's feet. We have great students, great staff and I know we
will produce a great show!
Thanks in advance to everyone for your support & hard work.
and so it begins...
Roy
